A group of miscreants set fire to the residence of BNP’s joint secretary general, Khairul Kabir Khokon, in Narsingdi on Wednesday.
Upon hearing the news from locals, two units of firefighters rushed to the scene and doused the fire.
All types of political activities of Narsingdi BNP operate from this residence, near the regional office of Titas Gas at Cinishpur union of Narsingdi sadar upazila. It is also known as the temporary office of BNP -- where nobody was present when the fire was set.
BNP leaders and activists said a group of miscreants entered the house around 4:45 pm on Wednesday.
Then they vandalised the windows and furniture of all rooms. At that time, they exploded some cocktails inside and set fire to all rooms.
Senior station officer of Narsingdi fire service Md Rayhan said “Primarily it is suspected that miscreants set the building on fire around 5:00 pm. We reached the scene at 5:20 pm and brought the fire under control at 5:30 pm. Then we left the scene around 5:40 pm.”
Locals suspect the fire incident might have occurred centering the murder of two Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men on Thursday as miscreants opened fire on a motorcade demanding abolishment of the district JCD committee.
Narsingdi model police station inspector (investigation) Harunur Rashid said it is not ascertained yet who set the house afire. The firefighters extinguished the fire. The responsible persons will be brought to book after an investigation is carried out.
