Bangabandhu Bridge has achieved a new record in daily toll collection as people in droves are rushing to their hometowns to celebrate Eid ul Azha.
Over Tk 33.4 million was collected as the toll on the bridge, also known as Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, in the last 24 hours, executive engineer of the bridge Ahsan Masud informed Prothom Alo adding that the previous record was Tk 31.8 million during the last Eid ul Fitr.
He said a total of 43,595 vehicles crossed the bridge and Tk 3,34,07,700 was collected as tolls.
Of these vehicles, a total of 25,113 crossed the bridge from the Dhaka end to northern districts.
On the other hand, 18,482 Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed the bridge.
Ahsan Masud said this is the record amount of toll collection since the inauguration of the bridge.
