Many people are bringing money from outside and conspiring against the country, inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed has said. He made the remark at an event orgainsed to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujbur Rahman at Zoom Bangla School premises in the capital's Segunbagicha area on Saturday.
IGP Benazir said, "Bangabandhu said the land of Bangladesh is very fertile. Crops grow here. Parasites also grow. Parasites become more powerful than the crops at times. Many have become parasites. They bring money from outside of the country and take up conspiracies against the country. The time has come to hold accountable those who conspire against the country, criticise it and try to impede its progress."
The top police official said, "Despite all conspiracies, the people of Bangladesh have graduated to a developing country in 50 years. We will elevate to a middle income country soon. That has been possible by destroying all conspiracies and parasites."
IGP said, "The Bangalees are a patriotic nation. They clinched victories as they united. I have no doubt that this nation will win at the end of the day."
Recalling that Bangladesh was once known as a country of hunger and poverty, Benazir Ahmed said, "People accepted poverty as their fate. The average life expectancy was 40-50 years. Bangabandu liberated such a country. The rate of poverty was 80 per cent during the liberation war of Bangladesh. When the present government came to power in 2009, the rate of poverty was 47 per cent. Now the rate of poverty is 20 per cent. Nine per cent of the people live under extreme poverty. We have surged ahead of many countries in South Asia in the many development and social indicators."
Warm clothes and education material for the children were distributed at the event organised by Zoom Bangla Youth Foundation. Bangladesh Police's Women Welfare Association president Zishan Mirza was present as the guest. Zoom bangla Youth Foundation president Ruhul Amin presided over the event.
