Law minister says CJ seeks one-month leave

Law and parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the chief justice, Surendra Kumar Sinha, has applied for one month’s leave on health grounds.

Talking to Prothom Alo, the minister said that the chief justice submitted the application seeking leave from tomorrow, Tuesday.

Anisul said the application was being forwarded to the president's office.

As per rules justice Abdul Wahab Miah would be made acting chief justice.

The chief justice, Surendra Kumar Sinha, and the ruling party leadership including the prime minister and the law minister were at loggerheads following the 16th amendment annulment verdict which scrapped parliament’s power to sack judges in July.

Several ministers met the chief justice and rumours had it that the chief justice would be sent on leave.
