Samia Akter Sayma, a seven-year old girl, whose body was recovered from an under-construction building of Dhaka's Wari, had been raped before she was strangled to death.

Forensic department head of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sohel Mahmud, confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Saturday after an autopsy on her body.

Primary evidences show that the child was raped before she was strangled to death with a rope, he said.

"Evidence found in the medical test shows marks of biting on her lips as well as wounds in her private parts," the physician added.

Sayma, a student of Silverdel School, went missing on Friday.

Her father Abdus Salam, a businessman, said to Prothom Alo, "We found her body in an empty room on the seventh floor of an under-construction building on Friday evening."

Police also said Sayma could have been raped before murder.

A case has been filed in connection with the incident with Wari police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner (Wari Zone), Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, said to Prothom Alo, "We have detained a few persons on suspicion. The investigation is still going on.”
