Awami League candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has taken a big lead by about 50,000 votes in the race for Narayanganj City Corporation’s mayoral post.
Selina Hayat Ivy contesting on the boat symbol got 121,600 votes in 150 centres while independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar vying the polls with the elephant symbol bagged 72,440 votes.
Returning officer Mahfuza Akter started announcing the results from Narayanganj deputy commissioner’s office at 6:00pm.
Voting began at 8:00am and continued at 4:00pm without any break.
Seven candidates including Selina Hayat Ivy and Taimur Alam Khandakar were running for the post of the NCC mayor.
Besides, 148 candidates are contesting for ward councillor posts while 38 women are contesting for reserved seats for women in the NCC polls.
This time the NCC elections have 517,361 voters, including 257,511 females. There are some 42,418 first-time voters.
