Ganatantra Mancha announces new programme

Ganatantra Mancha has announced a new programme for 11 February. They will hold a countrywide march as well as a mass contact programme. In Dhaka the march will commence from Mirpur 12 and end in Motijheel.

From the programme, Ganatantra Mancha  will made a 14-point demand including the resignation of the present government, elections under a non-partisan neutral government, and decrease in the price of electricity, gas and essential commodities.

Top leader of the Mancha and general secretary of Biplobi Workers Party, Saiful Huq, said, "We hope that all opposition parties declare a similar programme nationwide." He said that the people will not rest until the government bows out and resigns.

Ganatantra Mancha is holding its fifth programme on Saturday afternoon in front of the National Press Club as part of the simultaneous movement. BNP and like-minded political parties are observing programmes on the same day.

Addressing the Ganatantra Mancha programme were Gono Sanghati's chief coordinator Junaid Saki, Nagorik Oikya advisor SM Akram, Gono Odhikar Parishad member secretary Nurul Huq, Bhasani Onushari Parishad convener Rafiqul Islam and others.

Junaid Saki called upon the people not to be bluffed by the government's slogans for development and Smart Bangladesh. He said, certain persons are looting the banks and taking away the money in the name of development. Quick rental licences are being given in the name of development. Favoured persons are being paid in the name of capacity charge.

Member secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Nurul Huq, said, at the advice of IMF, the price of electricity and gas is being repeatedly increased at the cost of the people. He said that they are terming increased power prices as a matter of adjustment.
