Prothom Alo has won two major awards in the 'Global Media Award-2022' organised by International News Media Association (INMA).
Bangladesh's daily newspaper Prothom Alo ranked first in 'Best use of print' category of national brand division and stood second in 'Best idea to grow advertising sales' category.
INMA declared these awards at a virtual event on Thursday night.
Coming up second and third in the Best Use of Print category were, respectively, Gloria Glam of Croatia and the Irish Examiner of Ireland. Winning honourable mention in this category were Arab News of the United Arab Emirates, The New York Times of the US and Torstar, Canada.
While Prothom Alo won second place in the Best Idea to Grow Advertising Sales category, the first place was taken by Hanza Media, Croatia and third place by Hindustan Times of India. Honourable mention in this category went to The Hindu, Bennett Coleman and Company (Times of India) and Jagran Prakashan of India.
Bangladesh's leading OTT platform Chorki won honourable mention in the Best Initiative to Acquire Subscribers.
The 2022 Global Media Awards were given for 20 categories, with The Miami Herald's 'House of Cards' taking the coveted global 'Best in Show'. The awards are given for innovation and best practices in news brands, optimising the use of media platforms, subscriptions, advertising, data and insights, product, and newsroom. The Global Media Awards are presented to the selected best entities in six regions -- Asia Pacific, South Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America.
The 2022 Global Media Awards competition garnered a record 854 entries from 252 news media brands in 46 countries. Participants included newspaper media, magazine media, digital media, television media, and radio media. An international jury of 50 executives from 24 countries selected 332 finalists earlier this year.
International News Media Association (INMA) is a global community of market-leading news media companies reinventing how they engage audiences and grow revenue in a multi-media environment. The INMA competition, which has been rewarding media excellence since 1937, evaluates news media companies across three segments: national brands, regional brands, and media groups.
Incidentally, Prothom Alo won honourable mention in INMA's Global Media Awards last year. In 2020 Prothom Alo also won two awards in the South Asian Digital Media Awards of another international platform WAN-IFRA.
