Ramadan relief: 10m families to get 10 kg of rice each

The government is planning to provide 10 kilograms of rice to more than 10 million families each under its vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme, said food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder.

He came up with the announcement while responding to a question from journalists at the secretariat, reports UNB.

The minister noted that Bangladesh has witnessed a bumper Aman yield and it will not require to import rice if a good yield of Boro paddy is achieved.

The government usually distributes rice among the people during Ramadan under rationing, Kabikha, TR and OMS programmes.

“Rice and flour are distributed through 2500 dealers across the country on a regular basis,” the food minister said, adding that low-income people can buy 5 kg rice at Tk 30 per kg and 3 kg flour at Tk 24 under OMS programme.
