Regent Group chairman Shahed arrested: RAB
Regent Group chairman Md Shahed, made prime accused in a forgery case, has been arrested early Wednesday.
Ashik Billah, director of RAB's legal and media wing, confirmed this to Prothom Alo.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shahed with illegal arms in a special drive from Labongopoti, Debhata in Satkira around 5:30am.
On 6 July, RAB conducted a raid at Regent Hospital for issuing fake COVID-19 test certificates and collecting money from COVID-19 patients breaching its contract with the government. Later, two branches of the hospital were sealed off.
Earlier, 10 persons including Regent Group managing director Masud Parvez were arrested in connection with the incident.
On 7 July, RAB filed a case against Regent Hospital with Uttara West police station for various allegations including issuing fake COVID-19 certificates.
Seventeen persons were named in the case while Regent Group chairman Md Shahed was made the prime accused. Nine persons including the chief accused were shown as fugitives in the case statement.
The accused are Regent Group chairman Md Shahed, managing director Masud Parvez, employees Torikul Islam, Abdur Rashid Khan Jewel, Md Shimul Parvez, Dipayan Basu, IT officials Mahbub, Saikat, Palash, admin official Ahsan Habib, health technician Ahsan Habib, health technologist Hatim Ali, receptionist Kamrul Islam, project administrator Md Rakibul Islam, HR official Amit Banik, driver Abdus Salam and executive officer Abdur Rashid Khan.
