The government decided to close the shops, supermalls and kitchen markets across the country by 8:00pm every day in a bid to save electricity and fuels.
The decision will be effective from Monday, state minister for labour and employment Monnujan Sufian.
However, some service sectors will be out of this purview. These are: railway stations, airports, bus terminals, hospitals, pharmacies, salons, clubs, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, petrol retailers and newsstands, etc.
When asked whether the grocery shops in residential areas will remain closed or not, neither the state minister nor the ministry's secretary could clarify.
