Tributes pour in for Latifur Rahman

Condolences have been pouring in from people of all walks of like including politicians, lawmakers and businesspersons at the death of renowned businessman and Transcom Group's founder chairman Latifur Rahman.

Latifur Rahman, 75, breathed his last in Cumilla’s Chauddagram on Wednesday morning.

Finance minister AHM Mustafa expressed his deep shock over the death of Latifur Rahman and recalled his contribution for the country’s economy.

Expressing profound shock over Latifur Rahman’s death, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal prayed for the departed soul and expressed condolences to the grieving family members.

In separate condolence messages, information minister Hasan Mahmud, commerce minister Tipu Munshi, expatriate welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed, state minister for information Murad Hasan, state minister for disaster management and relief Enamur Rahman, state minister for water resources Zahid Faruque and deputy minister AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, expressed deep shock over the demise of Latifur Rahman.

Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam also mourned his death.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Sheikh Fazle Fahim sent condolences to the family and termed his death as an irreparable loss for the country and its economy.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, also expressed profound shock over the death.

Latifur Rahman would always remain a source of inspiration to the new generation entrepreneurs, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan added.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also mourned the death of Latifur Rahman on behalf of his party.

In a condolence message sent from party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Fakhrul said that Latifur Rahman was renowned for his honesty and commitment in his field.

Latifur Rahman, as the chairman of Mediastar Ltd which publishes country’s two leading newspapers Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, was respectful of objective news, Fakhrul added.

BNP leader said the people would revere his contribution for the country.

The condolence message also said that acting BNP chairman Tareque Rahman also mourned Latifur Rahman’s sudden demise.

Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman GM Quader in a separate condolence statement said Latifur Rahman has huge contribution in the country’s economy.

The void created by his demise would not be filled soon, GM Quader added.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president Hasanul Haque Inu and general secretary Shirin Akhter in their condolence statement said Latifur Rahman would always be remembered for his honesty and various social activities.

Jatiya Party (JP) chairman and lawmaker Anwar Hossain Manju and general secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam also expressed deep shock over the death of Latifur Rahman.

Islami Andolon Bangladesh ameer (chief) Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim in his condolence message said his contribution towards freedom and neutrality of press would always be remembered.

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association’s (BELA) chief executive Syeda Rizwana Hasan also expressed deep sorrow over Latifur Rahman’s death.

Bangladesh Mafassal Sangbadik Forum’s president Shahidul Islam and secretary Ahmed Abu Jafar said media industry of Bangladesh would face irreparable loss due to Latifur Rahman’s death.

Natundhara Bangladesh chairman Momin Mehedi, presidium member Shuvangkar Debnath, senior vice chairman Shanta Farzana, vice chairman Chandan Sengupta and acting secretary general Nipun Mistry, among others, have expressed deep shock over the death of Latifur Rahman.

PRAN-RFL Group’s chairman and chief executive officer Ahsan Khan Chowdhury also mourns the death.
