'Sitrang' now a powerful cyclone

'Sitrang' has turned into a powerful cyclone and moved towards the coastal region with stormy wind and incessant rainfall.

State minister for disaster management and relief Md Enamur Rahman said the cyclone might hit 13 low-lying districts in the coastal region.

These are Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.  

The state minister said preparation has been taken to tackle the cyclone.

He told Prothom Alo that "The forefront of Sitrang will hit Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Feni and Noakhali districts by 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday. Then the centre of the cyclone would cross Bangladesh on Tuesday around 6:00am after ravaging the coastal regions, including Patuakhali, Bhola and Pirojpur."

The whole country, including the capital city, is experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall due to this cyclone. While the cyclone crosses, the meteorological department said the gusty and stormy winds at the speed of 80 to 100 kilometres per hour might sweep over the coastal regions.
