Tarique Rahman wins in Dhaka-17, Bogura-6 constituencies

BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman contested from two constituencies in the 13th parliamentary election and has secured victory in both, according to unofficial results.

In Dhaka-17, unofficial results show that Tarique Rahman received 72,699 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate S M Khaliduzzaman, secured 68,300 votes. Rahman won the seat by a margin of 4,399 votes.

Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka and returning officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury announced the result around 4:00am on Friday. He said voting was held at 125 centres in the constituency, including postal ballots, and Rahman emerged victorious by the 4,399-vote margin.

There were 333,813 registered voters in Dhaka-17. Of them, 147,888 cast ballots. A total of 2,211 ballots were rejected, leaving 145,677 valid votes.

Among other candidates in Dhaka-17, Mohammad Ullah of Islami Andolan Bangladesh secured 1,768 votes with the hand-fan symbol, while Jatiya Party candidate Atik Ahmed received 1,168 votes with the plough symbol.

Rahman was also unofficially elected in Bogura-6.

Based on results from 150 centres, he received 216,284 votes, while his nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, obtained 97,626 votes with the Daripalla (balanced scales) symbol.
