China to support jute mills in Bangladesh

The government has decided to improve standard of local jute mills for producing viscous, the main raw material of cotton, with technical support of China.

“China would provide technical support to improve standard of local jute mills and we have signed a minutes of discussion to this end,” State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam said this while witnessing the signing ceremony at a city hotel on Sunday.

He said minutes of discussion was signed between Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and China Textile Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation, reports BSS.

Chinese vice minister and former president of China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) Wang Tianka and chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Kazi M Aminul Islam were present at the signing ceremony.

The state minister said Bangladesh-China friendly ties would further be enhanced through signing of the minutes of discussion.

“Regular bilateral trade would also improve our relations. We want to expand our trade with China in the textile and jute sector,” he added.
