Jessia Islam, who represented Bangladesh in the Miss World 2017 in China, returned home on Sunday. Speaking to Prothom Alo on Tuesday noon, she shared her experience at the 67th edition of the beauty pageant.
Are you the same Jessia?
Certainly I am. But there have been subtle changes. It was a great journey to become the Miss World Bangladesh and then participating in the Miss World, coming from a very humble background. I have learnt a lot from my fellow participants, who had come from different parts of the world. I stayed with them for a month, so yes my views and thoughts have changed in a positive way.
Who were your buddies in the camp?
I befriended Miss Kenya, Miss Nepal, and Miss Egypt. I had a little chat with Manushi Chillar, crowned Miss World, as well.
You were to take some souvenir. Did you take them?
I had to leave them here as I had two luggages that were overloaded. I could not even carry my necessary belongings.
Tell us something about your experience in the Miss World camp.
Oh, it was very exciting and full of fun. We travelled a lot. We visited many places and learned many things.
The other participants made introductory videos that were displayed in the event. But your video seemed to be made in a hurry. Why so?
I know. It was not up to the mark. Nobody told me it should be introductory. I was told to make a 2-minute video, but was no guideline from the organisers. I had no preparation and it showed in the video. I was very upset at that moment.
What have you learnt from the competition?
The most important thing I have learnt is to stay strong at any situation. I had the least preparation among the participants and I was very tensed while leaving for the event. I did not receive any guidance from our home organisers like the other participants did. But what I learned from the competition will certainly take me forward.
Have you got any offer to act?
I just returned home. Nobody has approached me yet. Everything happened very quickly. I need rest. I already have a two-year contract with Antor Showbiz, which means I have to work with them for the next two years.
