Legendary Bangladeshi singer, guitarist and songwriter Ayub Bachchu breathed his last in Dhaka on Thursday morning.

His relatives said he had suffered a cardiac arrest at his Dhanmondi residence in the morning.

The singer was then taken to Square Hospitals where physicians declared him dead around 9:55am.

A physician at the hospital said Bachchu was brought in around 9:30am, but he had died before he was taken to the hospital.

"We assume it's because of a cardiac arrest," he added.

Bachchu, also known as AB, is the founder of the LRB (Love Runs Blind), one of the leading bands of the country.

His songs 'Cholo Bodle Jaai', 'Kosto', 'Ghum Bhanga Shohore', 'Rupali Guitar', 'Saare Tin Haat Mati', 'Madhabi', 'Haste Dekho Gaite Dekho' are immensely popular among people of all ages.

Ayub Bachchu began his music career with a local music band named 'Feelings' at his birth place, Chittagong, in 1978, according to the LRB website.

He later joined the band Souls in 1980. In 1991, Ayub Bachchu left Souls and formed the LRB.

The band debuted in 1992 launching the first double album in the history of Bangla music.
