Boat race on river Chiknai

Atgharia pourasava in Pabna has arranged a boat race on the river Chiknai to mark 100 years of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthday. Boatmen in colourful costumes are participating in the 15-day programme initiated on 12 October. They are singing and playing drums while rowing boats. Some 20 boats are participating in the event. Men, women and children are crowding the banks of the river in the late autumn afternoon. Enthusiastic people are even climbing trees or railing of bridges to see the competition. Floating stalls have emerged while people are adding to the festivity joining with their drums.
