Dol Purnima today

The Dol Purnima Utsab, a festival of colours of the Hindu community, will be celebrated today across the country with due religious fervour and befitting manner.

The festival also known as Holi will start from the morning and will continue till the afternoon. The people of Hindu community will celebrate the festival with colours and events of amusements.

As a ritual in celebration of the festival, the devotees will visit the shrines, temples and offer colours at the feet of Idol of the God Sri Krishna and Sri Radhika.

In accordance with mythology, Dol Purnima, also known as Dol Jatra or Holi, is regarded as the festival of the believers of Boishnobism.

The festival has been introduced marking an auspicious day when Sri Krishna, Sri Radhika and their friends were playing with Abir (a kind of perfumed and coloured powder) at Brindaban in the ancient days.

The festival is known as Dol Jatra in many states in India including West Bengal, Tamilnadu (Madras), Orissa, North, West and Middle regions of India.

Holi or Dol Jatra is also celebrated in one of our friendly SAARC neighbouring country Nepal.
