The use of various social media including Facebook has increased in Bangladesh in the last one year since the onset of coronavirus infection.
In this time, the number of Facebook users has increased by about 10 million. Messenger users have increased even more. The use of Instagram and LinkedIn has also increased.
This is according to statistics from NapoleonCat, a Polish-based social media management platform. In different countries of the world, NapoleonCat keeps track of the monthly usage of various social media including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, LinkedIn.
According to them, the number of Facebook users in Bangladesh till May this year is 47.2 million. This number is 28 per cent of the total population of the country.
Among the users, 30.9 per cent are women and 69.1 per cent are men. Most of the users are between 18 and 24 years old. Their number is 21.2 million.
The number of Messenger users has increased the most during this time. In April 2020, 9.3 million people used Messenger in the country. In one year this number has increased four and a half times 42.1 million.
The number of Instagram users in Bangladesh is now 4.7 million, which is only 2.3 per cent of the population. The use of LinkedIn, one of the means of social communication for professionals, has also increased in Bangladesh. As of May this year, the number of LinkedIn users is 4.1 million, which is 2.4 per cent of the population.
Sumon Ahmed, an IT security expert, said the use of social media has also increased in the country due to the increasing use of technology.
