Bangladesh face off India in the super fours of the Asia Cup at Dubai.

Both teams have won their first matches in this stage; India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets while Bangladesh won by 4 wickets against Sri Lanka. 

India beat Bangladesh all but once in 17 T20I encounters. Bangladesh registered their only victory in November 2019 at Delhi. Given this head-to-head imbalance and India’s T20 supremacy (losing only 3 games out of 35 since the beginning of 2024), India are clear favorite in this match. Can Bangladesh make an upset today?

Bangladesh win toss and elect to field first.

Jaker Ali is captaining Bangladesh in place of Litton Das. Jaker says that Litton injured himself during practice and is missing today.

Suryakumar says he would have batted first anyway as the pitch became a bit slower in a previous game here. The Indian captain says he will be very happy to bat first.

Bangladesh make four changes. Taskin, Shoriful, Mahedi, and Litton miss out while Tanzim, Rishad, Emon, and Saifuddin replace them.

Rishad Hossain strikes again. Dube gets out as India lost their second wicket for 83. Rishad has two wickets in consecutive overs. Captain Suryakumar comes to bat.

Saif Hassan bowls a good over conceding five singles. He stems the flow of runs, conceding only seven runs in his two overs.

India reach 96/2 after 10 overs, thanks to Abhishek's 60* off 32 balls. Rishad took two wickets for 17 in two overs.

Abhishek's blistering innings of 75 from 37 balls comes to end as he bites the dust due to a mix-up with Suryakumar. India lost their third at 112.

Bangladesh back to game as struggling Suryakumar gets caught behind by Mustafizur. Jaker Ali takes the catch and take a successful review. Mustafiz concedes only 2 runs in the over, and bring Bangladesh back in the game.

Tanzim removes Tilak Varma. India's half gone in 15 overs for 132. Tanzim bowled very good two overs in the start and gets important wicket of Tilak in his third.

Bangladesh would contend to see them in current position after Abhishek's strom.

Nasum and Mustafizur conceded only 9 runs in 16th and 17th over to rein in India's run flow.

Bangladeshi bowlers make a stunning comeback to restrict India to 168 for 6. India could score only 41 runs in last six overs after Abhishek played a blistering innings of 75 off 37 balls.

Rishad took two wickets while Mustafizur, Tanzim and Saifuddin took a wicket apiece.

Saifuddin got Hardik in the last ball and give away only four runs.

India scored 100 runs in 10.1 overs, and added only 68 in the last half of the innings.

In their previous match, Bangladesh restricted Sri Lanka to 168 and chased it down successfully. This time too, the bowlers have held India to 168.

Special credit goes to Rishad Hossain. The 23-year-old leg-spinner picked up two wickets and also made a big impact in the field—his brilliant fielding led to the run-out of Abhishek Sharma.

As long as Abhishek was at the crease, India’s score was racing towards 200. Having survived a chance at 7 when Zakir Ali dropped him, Abhishek went on to score 75 off 37 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. After his dismissal in the 12th over, India couldn’t accelerate. In the remaining 53 balls of the innings, they managed only 56 runs, with Hardik Pandya contributing 38 off 29.

Earlier, it was Rishad who broke India’s 77-run opening stand and also dismissed No. 3 Shivam Dube. Apart from Rishad’s two wickets, Tanzim Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Saifuddin picked up one wicket each for Bangladesh. Saif Hasan, though wicketless, bowled two overs for just 7 runs.

Now the question is—how will Bangladesh respond with the bat?

Dube dropped a sitter as Saif Hasan gets life on 65. Saifuddin holes out in next delivary. Bangladesh lost thier sixth in 15.2 overs for 110. Saif Hasan is riding on his luck as he gets another life in the same over bowled by Varun.

Saif's 69 off 50 balls (3 fours and 5 sixes) comes to and end as Axar takes a well-judged catch at long on. His lone battle comes to an end as Bangladesh lost thier ninth wicket at 116.

India win by 41 runs as Bangladesh all out for 127 as no Bangladeshi batsmen except Saif Hasan prove their worth chasing a target of 169.
