The 34th BCS examinees, who were recommended to be recruited in non-cadre service, are to be appointed as assistant teachers in government high schools after one year of the ministry’s decision in this regard.
Education ministry officials said 289 successful candidates will be recruited before Eid-ul-Azha though there were recommendations for 450 examinees.
One of the officials, on condition of anonymity, said to Prothom Alo, “As many as 336 candidates took part in the medical checkup though there were recommendations for recruiting 450 persons. This is why we think the rest won’t join the service.”
“A total of 289 candidates are being recruited and we have their police verification reports. They will be recruited as second class officers,” he added.
The two officials of the ministry further said that the draft appointment has also been completed and they have been working hard with a view to issue the gazette notification by Thursday, the last working day before the Eid-ul-Azha.
This would double the joy of their Eid celebration, the ministry officials hoped.
Additional secretary (Secondary Education) of the education ministry, Chowdhury Mufad Uddin, said “There is a shortage of teachers in high schools. This is why we are appointing those whose reports we have received. The rest will be appointed as soon as we get their reports.”
“There will be no problem of seniority of those who will be recruited later. Seniority will be determined according to the merit list prepared by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC),” he added.
Over 2,000 posts for assistant teachers have remained vacant in 338 government high schools across the country, creating a huge problem for teaching.
But the appointment process remained halted since 2012 due to complexities over recruitment rules.
Later, in June 2016, the education ministry decided to appoint 450 examinees who passed the 34th BCS examination but didn’t get jobs in the cadre service, to the government higher secondary schools as assistant teachers after a PSC proposal in this connection.
