The authorities of Jagannath University are taking preparations to hold its first convocation on 11 January, reports news agency UNB.
A total of 18,317 graduates have registered for attending the convocation. Among them, some 11,877 will get their graduation certificates, alongside 4,829 postgraduates, 11 Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) and six doctorates (PhD).
Apart from them, 1,574 students of evening programmes will receive their certificates.
The convocation will be held at Dhupkhola ground in Old Dhaka. The online registration for the convocation began on 1 March.
Students who will attend the convocation have been asked to collect their costumes, bags and gifts from offices of their respective departments on 7, 8, and 9 January .
Besides, certificate will be given from 3:00pm to 8:00pm on 11 January and from 9:00am to 4:00pm on 12 January.
President Abdul Hamid will preside over the grand event while professor emeritus Arun Kumar Basak will attend it as the convocation speaker.
University's vice chancellor professor Mizanur Rahman said it had not been possible to organise the convocation because of various complexities.
“We’ll make it a successful convocation with the assistance of teachers and students,” he said.
Established in 1868, the Jagannath College was made a university on 20 October 2005.
