School admission begins

As the year draws to a close, admission procedures have begun in various schools. Some private schools are already handing out admission forms and rest are preparing to do so.

Government schools have raised the price of their admission forms from Tk 150 to Tk 170. Private school have kept the price of their admission forms same as before.

The education, at a meeting on Monday, finalised the rules and regulations for government and private school admission. SM Wahiduzzaman, director of the directorate of secondary and higher education (DSHE), said advertisements of the admission ‘lottery’ and schedule of the admission tests would be published shortly.

An official of DSHE said there are 35 government secondary schools under DSHE and 14 of these have admission vacancy for class 1.

According to the rules, class 1 students will be selected by lottery, grade nine based on the results of JSC and JDC exams, and rest through an entrance exam.

The 14 schools with grade one admission vacancies are Azimpur School and College, Dhanmondi Government Laboratory High School , Dhanmondi Government Boys High School,  Tejgaon Boys High School, Tejgaon Girls High School, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Boys High School, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls High School, Motijheel Boys High School, Khilgaon Government High School, Narinda Government High School, Banglabazar Government Girls High School, Government Science College (attached) High School, Mohammadpur Government High School and Ganabhaban Government High School. There are 1500 seats in these 14 schools. The first grade student’s age should be at least six years according to the rules.

An official of DSHE said, the whole procedure of admission forms, admission tests and lottery would be completed by the end of December this year.

Viqarunnisa Noon School and College will be open to deliver the forms till 15 November and Motijheel Ideal School and College will be open for admission procedures from 15 till 25 November.
