Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam has said it is a failure of police not to arrest Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan, an absconding accused in a murder case.
"It is a failure of the police to not locate a murder accused or arrest for so long. We have cooperated with the police to find him. Nobody would know about Arav Khan if we would not have posted about him on Facebook and go to Dubai," he added. ’
He said said this while talking to Prothom Alo over phone from Dubai on Saturday.
Hero Alam said he would return home on Sunday after attending the inauguration of jewelry shop 'Arav Jewelers' established by Rabiul Islam.
He is supposed to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:00am.
When asked about the statement of DB police that cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and Hero Alam may be interrogated for investigation, Hero Alam said, "I am respectful to the law. Police can interrogate those who are reportedly connected with crimes or suspects for investigation. Police have to first clarify the connection of popular cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and me with the murderer of a policeman."
Claiming that he did not know that Arav Khan is accused of murdering a police officer, Hero Alam said, "I was introduced to him (Arav Khan) on Facebook. He invited me as a Bangladeshi entrepreneur. We stars have gone there to encourage the Bangladeshi expat entrepreneurs."
Hero Alam said, "Rabiul Islam is running a jewelry business in the United Arab Emirates. This matter was unknown for so long. This may have remained unknown. But Arav Khan came to the limelight as Shakib Al Hasan and Hero Alam have come to inaugurate the jewelry shop. His real identity has been exposed because of us. Police should reward us for cooperating to locate the absconding accused. But the police are planning to harass us in the name of interrogation."
DB said Rabiul Islam fled to India after being accused of killing Imran Khan, inspector of police’s special branch (SB) in 2018. He got married there and managed an Indian passport using a fake identity. From there he went to Dubai. Now he is a renowned gold trader in the UAE.
DB chief Harun Or Rashid said an effort is on to bring back Rabiul home with the help of Interpol. There is an arrest warrant in 12 cases against Rabiul, he added.
