All shops to close by 8:00 pm, shop owners association announces

All shops, commercial establishments and shopping centres across the country will close by 8:00 pm, the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has announced.

Shop owners have taken this decision to support the government in conserving electricity and energy amid the ongoing energy crisis.

The announcement was made in a press release sent to the media today, Thursday morning, signed by the organisation’s president Nazmul Hasan Mahmud and general secretary Arifur Rahman.

The statement said the decision was taken at a joint meeting of the standing committees of the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association and the Dhaka City Shop Owners Association, in view of the energy crisis. The move is aimed at assisting the government in saving electricity and energy.

However, hotels, pharmacies, essential service outlets and kitchen markets will remain exempt from this directive.
