Execution of Nizami

Dhaka, Islamabad summon each other's HCs

Dhaka and Islamabad each summoned on Thursday the high commissioners of the other country following Pakistan’s reaction to the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Matiur Rahman Nizami.

Summons and counter-summons of the high commissioners of each other’s country have began when Pakistan expressed deep concern and anguish over the rejection of Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s review petition against his death penalty.

Shortly after Pakistan reaction, Dhaka on 9 May summoned Pakistan high commissioner in Dhaka, Shuja Alam, and handed over a protest note.

In response, Pakistan, which experienced dismemberment of one of its two parts through the birth of Bangladesh in 1971, on Thursday summoned Bangladesh high commissioner to Pakistan Mohammad Najmul Huda.

The press secretary at Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan, Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, confirmed the summons of Bangladesh high commissioner in Islamabad to the Prothom Alo.

In a quick reaction within hours, Dhaka again summoned Pakistan high commissioner in Dhaka Shuja Alam.

Pakistan national assembly on Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution expressing concern and condemned the hanging of Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami.
